EverywhereHistory is a personal, non-commercial, English-language blog operated from Poland.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information may be processed when you visit everywherehistory.com or contact me.

2. Information processed when you visit EverywhereHistory
EverywhereHistory is hosted on WordPress.com, a service provided by Automattic.
When you visit the website, WordPress.com may automatically process technical information such as:
- IP address;
- browser type;
- device and operating system information;
- language settings;
- referring website;
- date and time of access;
- pages visited;
- approximate geographic location derived from an IP address;
- technical information necessary to operate and secure the website.
I do not use this information to identify individual visitors.

3. Why this information is processed
Technical information may be processed where necessary to:
- deliver the website;
- maintain its security and technical operation;
- prevent abuse;
- understand basic use of the website;
- diagnose technical problems.
Where I determine the purpose of this processing, the legal basis is my legitimate interest in operating and maintaining EverywhereHistory.
Where processing requires consent under applicable law, it will be based on consent.
4. Website statistics
WordPress.com provides me with basic website statistics, such as:
- number of visits and page views;
- articles viewed;
- referring websites;
- approximate geographic information;
- links clicked.
I use these statistics only to understand how EverywhereHistory is being used and which content readers find useful.
EverywhereHistory does not currently use Google Analytics or another separately installed analytics service.
5. Contact by email
EverywhereHistory does not currently use a contact form.
If you contact me directly by email, I will receive information such as:
- your email address;
- your name, if provided;
- the contents of your message;
- any other information you choose to include.
I will use this information only as necessary to read and respond to your message and, where appropriate, maintain a record of the correspondence.
The legal basis for this processing is my legitimate interest in communicating with readers and responding to questions, corrections, suggestions or other correspondence.
I will keep correspondence only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to the message, deal with any follow-up and maintain any records that are reasonably required.
Email communication for EverywhereHistory is handled through Google Workspace.
6. Comments, accounts and subscriptions
At present:
- comments are disabled;
- visitors cannot create accounts;
- EverywhereHistory does not operate a mailing list or newsletter;
- email addresses are not collected for marketing;
- there is no contact form;
- no products or services are sold through the website.
If any of these features are introduced later, this Privacy Policy will be reviewed and updated as necessary.
7. Cookies
WordPress.com may use cookies and similar technologies for purposes including website operation, security, preferences and website statistics.
EverywhereHistory aims to minimise unnecessary tracking.

8. Advertising
EverywhereHistory does not currently display advertising and I do not use visitor information for targeted advertising.
I do not sell personal information about visitors.
9. External links
Articles may contain links to external websites, including:
- museums;
- archives;
- public institutions;
- maps;
- historical organisations;
- booksellers or publishers;
- other sources and websites relevant to an article.
If you follow one of these links, you leave EverywhereHistory and the privacy practices of the external website will apply.
I am not responsible for how third-party websites process personal information.
10. Interactive maps and other embedded content
Some EverywhereHistory articles contain interactive maps created with uMap using OpenStreetMap data.
The maps are embedded from the Swiss uMap instance at umap.osm.ch, hosted by the Swiss OpenStreetMap Association (SOSM).
When an embedded map is loaded, your browser connects directly to the uMap service. As a result, SOSM may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser information, date and time of access and the map or resources requested.
SOSM states that its services may use cookies or similar session-tracking methods, that accesses are logged and that anonymised aggregate usage statistics may be generated. SOSM also states that it does not track use across multiple websites.
EverywhereHistory does not grant embedded uMap maps permission to access browser geolocation.
Depending on the map configuration and selected map layer, additional map tiles or resources may be requested from services used by uMap or OpenStreetMap. Those services may receive technical information necessary to deliver those resources.
Other externally hosted content, such as video, may be added in the future. If this materially changes how visitor information is processed, this Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy will be updated.
11. Service providers
Services used to operate EverywhereHistory may include:
- Automattic / WordPress.com – website hosting, technical operation, security and website statistics;
- Swiss OpenStreetMap Association (SOSM) / uMap – hosting and delivery of interactive maps embedded in some articles;
- Google Workspace – email communication;
- domain and DNS providers – administration and technical operation of the everywherehistory.com domain.
These providers may process technical or personal information as necessary to provide their services.
12. International data transfers
Some service providers used by EverywhereHistory operate internationally and may process information outside Poland or the European Economic Area.
Where required by data-protection law, such transfers are subject to appropriate legal safeguards used by the relevant service provider.

13. How long information is kept
I keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
Information processed by WordPress.com or other service providers is retained according to their applicable retention practices and legal obligations.
14. Your rights
Subject to the conditions set out in applicable data-protection law, you may have the right to:
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate personal data;
- request deletion of your personal data;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain processing;
- receive personal data in a portable format where applicable;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
